VIN GARDE POMMARD 160 Wine Cooler

Vin Garde is a UK-based company that offers high-capacity, long-term storage units for wine. Their units are designed to accommodate a variety of bottle shapes and sizes, making them more versatile than other options on the market.

With a maximum capacity of 160 Bordeaux bottles. Each layer of bottles is supported on individual shelves, rather than stacked, for easy access to the wines. The unit also has a display shelf at the top that can be rearranged or additional shelves added at a later date. The temperature within the unit can be adjusted between 5-22°C in the upper zone and 12-22°C in the lower zone, and it has a heating system to allow it to function in ambient temperatures as low as 0°C.

The compressor is mounted on vibration-free bushes to ensure that the bottles are stored in optimal conditions. These tall wine fridges are suitable for installation in a variety of locations, including garages and outbuildings.

    Bottle Capacity & Shelving

The Vin Garde wine coolers feature specialized shelving that is designed to accommodate a wider range of bottles. Instead of using wood for the majority of the shelves, the units utilize metal which is stronger and can be made thinner, allowing for more efficient use of space. The Beaune cabinets are equipped with 11 full sliding shelves, 1 half sliding shelf and 2 sliding display shelves which slide out on telescopic rails for easy access to the bottles at the back of the shelf. There is also one half-sliding shelf and two sliding display shelves. The cabinet has a full tinted glass door that is UV protected to prevent damage to the wine from UV rays over long periods of time.

    Installation of the POMMARD 160

Wine coolers made by Vin Garde can be installed into cabinets or used as freestanding units. The door has a 45° overhang if you decide to build the unit into your cabinetry, so you will need to leave an extra 1.5 cm on the hinge side to make sure the wine fridge can be installed flush with the cabinetry. In order to prevent overheating, it's crucial to leave at least 50 mm of space behind the wine fridge for ventilation.

    Internal Lighting

In comparison to many other options on the market, the lighting on Vin Garde cabinets is excellent. All Vin Garde models include two LED strips down either side of the cabinet and a ceiling light, which provides excellent lighting for the wine.

This is especially useful when the shelves are pulled out because it makes it easier to read the labels. Furthermore, the lighting is dimmable, so if the standard brightness is too bright for the environment in which the unit is installed, you can reduce it.

       Installation Of Your Wine Cooler

We've selected the finest wine fridges available in the UK but we often get asked about the different installation requirments for freestanding, built in and integrated wine coolers and wine cabinets. Take a look below at our brief guides and get in touch if you have any questions - we'll be very happy to help!

      Freestanding wine cooler

A freestanding wine cooler is designed to stand independently and should not be built in to any form of cabinet or cupboard. Freestanding wine fridges require ventilation at all times. It's highly recommended that there is a minimum gap of 3-5 inches from the side and rear of the unit to any other surface. Freestanding wine cooler units should not be installed under a countertop (under counter), built in to cabinetry or covered over the top in any way as this can cause over heating and negates the manufacturer warranty. Find out more about Freestanding Wine Cooler Installation.

      Integrated wine cooler

Integrated wine fridges are similar to built-in wine coolers but are designed to slot in perfectly into cupboards to create a floating, seamless look. In comparison to a built-in unit, integrated wine coolers sit completely flush with your cabinetry.

      Built-in/undercounter wine cooler

In contrast to a freestanding wine cooler, a built in wine cooler is designed to be fitted into a cupboard, cabinet or under counter. This being said a built in unit can also be used as a free-standing wine cooler. A built-in wine cooler has a ventilation grill which allows cool air to flow into the unit which maintains it's cooling function. Find out more about built in wine cooler installation.

      Noise

      Is a wine cooler noisy?

The majority of wine coolers which we stock produce a noise level of approximately 35-45 decibels (dB). When compared to other common household electrical appliances, it's useful to note, a standard dishwasher creates around 45-50 dB and a modern refrigerator generates approximately 35 dB.

The reason a modern wine cooler produces noise is for much the same reasons as a standard kitchen refrigerator. Most wine coolers are designed with a compressor, an array of fans (to consistently circulate the cool air) and refrigerant. The minor difference between a wine cooler and a standard refrigerator is that the wine cooler has the need to hold a steady, consistent temperature at all times to keep your wine perfectly chilled.

How do I reduce the noise of my wine cooler?

There are a number of ways you can mitigate and reduce the noise produced by your wine cooler:

      •  Carpets, rugs, curtains and furniture can all help to absorb the sound created by your wine cooler
      •  Consider using sound-absorbing materials during any home improvement work
When it comes to the installation of your wine cooler, make sure the unit is perfectly level using a spirit level. Sound, vibration and noise absorbing materials can also be placed under your wine cooling unit.
      •  Always ensure there is sufficient air circulating around the product, please see our explanations above regarding the different types of wine coolers for more information.
