Why Invest in a Quiet Wine Fridge?

Here at Expert Wine Storage, we understand the need for almost silent, premium wine storage solutions and that's why we stock a wide range of low-noise and almost silent wine fridges for your home or commercial space.

We have a selection of superior products from brands such as Dunavox, Swisscave, Liebherr, and Avintage, in a range of shapes and sizes designed to fit perfectly into your kitchen cabinetry or living space.

Our leading brands invest in the latest technology to create serene running machines.

    1. Optimal Temperature With Whisper Quiet Sound

Quiet wine fridges are specifically designed to be almost silent. A cooler operating below 40 dB (decibel) is barely audible most of the time, while a unit working at 39 dB is very hushed, and 36 dB is practically silent.

Compared to a regular kitchen fridge, a wine fridge needs to keep its contents at a precise, stable temperature between 5-20°C. In a single zone, one temperature is constant, while in a dual zone unit two independent temperatures are being maintained by the compressor.

The extra effort required to keep these zones climate controlled is why steps are taken by manufacturers to reduce noise.

Our quietest products are the premium Swisscave wine fridges which are all suitable for built-in and freestanding use, like the Swisscave WLB160DF (price £1,979).

Keeping your wines perfectly chilled shouldn't cause a noise disturbance in your home or business.

    2. Hushed Cooling System

Until March 2021, when EU regulations changed and banned this type of cooling system, wine fridges were available with almost mute thermoelectric-based cooling systems. Thermoelectric cooling has a low sound output as there are few moving parts to create any noise.

However, this type of cooling mechanism also introduced large swings in temperature within the wine fridge - these fluctuations in temperature are not seen with modern-day compressor-cooled fridges like the ones on offer at EWS.

    3. Features To Look For

Along with looking at the low decibel rating of the device, here are a few features to look for in a noise-sensitive model:

    • Vibration-free compressor: Many compressor-based units are fitted with cutting-edge vibration dampening technology, like seen in the Dunavox wine fridge range here, that limits and stops vibrations at the source. The compressor is typically the main source of noise output.
    • Shock absorbing shelves: Choose a high-end model with shelving housed on shock reducing fittings and smooth, sliding rails.

    4. Extra Steps To Mitigate Cooler Noise

If you're looking to reduce noise output further from the appliance, here are a few measures you can take too:

    • Installation Position:  Install your wine fridge on a flat, level surface away from other appliances, that could amplify vibration.
    • Ventilation: Provide sufficient airflow from walls, depending on if the model is freestanding, integrated or built-in. Also, clean the front ventilation ports regularly to stop dust and debris build-up. Poor ventilation can cause the compressor to work harder, resulting in increased noise.
    • Other mitigating factors:  Place rubber or cork pads under the feet of the coolers feet to stop vibration traveling to the floor below. You can also add soundproofing material like carpet or specialist noise reduction foam to the wall behind the unit to absorb sound - ensure sufficient ventilation.

Take extra steps to turn a quiet device into a silent one so your home is peacefully tranquil.
